Recension av "Hyde Park, London"
Hyde Park is situated in the heart of central London providing Londoners and visitors with a place to relax, sight see or take part in sports. Due to its fantastic location it provides an excellent way to tour many popular parts of London on foot, without having to cram into overpacked overheated underground trains or buses. At 142 hectares, you'll need to allow yourselves plenty of time to explore.Within the park itself there are many sporting activities on offer including swimming/paddling in the Serpentine lake, tennis, bowls and horse riding. However it is equally okay to bring a ball and a picnic and do your own thing. There are also several cafes in the park if the picnic idea doesn't appeal! There are many places just outside the park's perimeter which you may have been hoping to visit anyway, so I'll just do a quick run down:
For shopping: Oxford Street can be found at the North East Corner, Harrods is towards the South East Corner and trendy Notting Hill with a wide variety of boutiques and markets is at the North West Corner. For sightseeing: Kensington Palace (former home of Diana, Princess of Wales) and gardens is directly next to Hyde Park at the South West corner, and in the same area on the opposite side of the road you'll also find the Royal Albert Hall.
Museums: From the South West of the park it is just a ten minute walk south down Exhibition road and there you'll find the fantastic Natural History Museum, Science Museum, and Victoria and Albert Museum. All of which have free entry. You can get a really good map of the park at: www.royalparks.org.uk and they also have details of special events in the park.
For a free, family friendly day out in central London, I would definately recommend Hyde Park.
